What is Pokemon Z Fangame?
Pokemon Z is a free, non-profit RPGXP fangame created by EricLostie, a popular game developer in the Spanish community known for fangames like Pokemon Anil, Opalo, Titan, and more. Pokemon Z is developed using Pokemon Essentials and RPG Maker XP.
This fangame is set in the Kalos region, but with a twist — Kalos is shown as it was 300 years ago, often referred to as the ancient Kalos region.
The game aims to provide fans with a dedicated story about the history of Kalos (though fan-written, it has been widely praised by the community). The fangame introduces new characters such as the protagonist, professor, rivals, and many others you’ll meet throughout your adventure.
In addition to its story, Pokemon Z includes a variety of exciting features, such as new regional forms, Fakemon evolutions, and even fanmade Mega Evolutions for the Kalos starters (since the Pokemon Company only recently announced official ones). The game also expands the experience with countless other interesting mechanics, improvements, and surprises that fans can enjoy throughout their journey.
Initial Plot of the Game
A long time ago, the Pokemon world was on the brink of destruction due to a fierce war. The king of that era, Aster Zephyr, built a mysterious machine capable of bringing life back to the fallen. Countless humans and Pokemon perished during this conflict, yet the great war showed no signs of ending.
Driven by anger and desperation, the king modified his creation and transformed it into a devastating weapon of war. However, much of the truth surrounding these events has been lost to history.
This is the story of how it all happened… Kalos, 300 years ago.
Features of the Fagame
1. New Story in the Kalos Region, but 300 Years Ago
Explore what happened in the Kalos region 300 years before Pokemon X and Y. Journey through ancient Kalos, discover its mysteries, uncover the truth about the great wars, and even take part in them. Along the way you’ll meet new friends, rivals, and villains. This story will truly change your perspective about the Kalos region.
2. All Pokemon up to Generation 9
Travel across ancient Kalos while meeting, catching, and training Pokemon from all 9 generations — from Kanto to Paldea. From regional forms to exclusive DLC Pokemon, every Pokemon has its place in this fangame.
3. New Regional Forms and Fan-Made Evolutions
Along with the official Pokemon, the game introduces new regional forms unique to ancient Kalos, plus Fakemon evolutions for existing Pokemon — including brand-new Mega Evolutions for the Kalos starters and more.
4. All Starters from Kanto to Paldea (Gen 1–9)
Every starter Pokemon from Kanto to Paldea is available in the game. However, it’s recommended to choose the Kalos starters to enjoy their regional importance and their special new fan-made Mega Evolutions.
5. 12 Gyms
The game features 12 gyms (10 available in the current release), offering more challenges and more opportunities to battle, train, and explore throughout your adventure.
6. New Characters and Villains
Most of the characters are fan-made — including the protagonist, professor, and rivals. The villains are also original, each with their own backstory and personality, making them fun and memorable to encounter during your journey.
7. Mega Evolutions
Mega Evolution plays an important role in Kalos since it originated there. The game features both the official Mega Evolutions and new fan-made ones, giving you plenty of options to power up your team.
8. Following Pokemon System
Your lead Pokemon will walk beside you on your adventure thanks to the beloved Following Pokemon system — making the journey feel more alive and personal.
9. Animated Sprites & Gen 5 Graphics
Enjoy animated sprites and Generation 5-style graphics that improve the overall aesthetics and bring a fresh visual impact to the game.
10. Village Reconstruction
A unique feature of this fangame is rebuilding destroyed villages alongside their citizens. Watching a village come back to life is one of the most mind-blowing experiences in the game.
11. Crafting Items

The game also includes built-in Nuzlocke Options:
- No Nuzlocke: Play normally with no restrictions
- Nuzlocke: Fainted Pokemon are considered permanently dead when defeated in battle
- Nuzlocke with Help: Revive 2 fainted Pokemon after each gym battle
- Level Caps: Extra challenge with level restrictions during progression
13. And Many More Features
These are only the key highlights of the game. More features will continue to be added as development progresses.
Best Platform to Play the Game
The game is made using RPG Maker XP and Pokemon Essentials, so it is best suited and recommended for Windows devices such as PCs and laptops. Other devices, like Linux systems capable of running .exe files, can also be used.
Mobile devices are not recommended. However, if you don’t have access to a PC, you can use the Joiplay emulator on Android devices to play the game. Unfortunately, iOS does not currently have a suitable method for running the game.
While Android devices have emulator options, it is always recommended to play the game on a PC or laptop to enjoy the full and optimal experience.
Game Progress & Save Compatibility
The game is currently in active development, but 75% of it is already completed, including the major story. Out of 12 gyms, you can currently beat 10 in the current release, participate in a war, and enjoy many other exciting features that are already available.
Regarding save compatibility — yes, your saves will work with future versions of the game, so there’s no need to worry about losing your progress or grinding.
If you want to play the game, play it now — otherwise, you might regret not experiencing this masterpiece early!
